| Selection of Officers | Officers are selected by the board from the membership of the board. Jeff Hayward, who has served as Treasurer for several years, volunteered to continue in that capacity. Greg Blumenthal volunteered to serve as Secretary, with the understanding that he has no office support, so hard-copy mailings might be difficult. As no one volunteered to serve as Chair, a rotating Chair assignment was agreed to, with David Svendsgaard serving as Chair for the next meeting. Shawn Sager, who was not present, will be approached regarding this position. |

| Treasurer’s Report | We have lots of money (several thousand dollars) and few members (about 30). We probably should use some of this money to develop attractive symposia, which tend to bring in new members. | |
| Black Fungus Symposium | Structure: 3 speakers, a biologist, a
policy/risk assessor, and a legal/political/remediator. Contact Marcia Ward (EPA), Damian Shea (NCSU), Duke for potential speakers. Location: CIIT or RTI, depending on availability and projected turnout. Heavy snacks and sodas/coffee should be provided. Date: October 12 or 14. Note that October 14 is fall break for UNC, but they don’t turn out well anyway, and that should not significantly affect grad student turnout. October 7 is during NCSU fall break. Time: 3:00 registration/snacks, 3:30 1st speaker, 5:30 end speakers, 6:00 shoo people out |
