Ines Pagan, Board Member, RTC-SRA

Ines Pagan is a Toxicologist at the National Center for Environmental Assessment (NCEA), Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). She develops health hazard and risk assessments and contributes to the improvement of the tools and methods used in EPA assessments. Dr Pagan is also a member of the Computational Toxicology Implementation Steering Committee (CTISC), Office of Research and Development (ORD). This committee has been charged with the task of developing a cross-ORD initiative to coordinate and enhance the current research program by promoting the use of state-of-the art technology to achieve more efficient assessment of risk posed by chemicals and environmental stressors.

Her professional training includes a Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine, and a Ph.D. in Pharmacology/Biotechnology (College of Veterinary Medicine, NC State University). Dr. Pagan’s postdoctoral research (NC State University and U.S. EPA) was focused on the mediators and mechanism of pulmonary injury/repair at the cell and molecular level. During this time Dr. Pagan was also actively involved in providing support for the trainees at the EPA acting as the Co-chair for the EPA-RTP Trainee Association. Her research interests remain in the mechanism/mode of actions of chemical induced-pulmonary toxicity and its relevance to human health. Dr. Pagan is an invited member of the Sigma Xi Scientific Research Society, member of the Society of Toxicology (NC-SOT) and the Society for Risk Analysis (SRA). Her objective, as a new RTC-SRA Board Member, is to work on the recruitment of additional members and to contribute to diverse activities of interest to current and new members.
